How to Create a Product Strategy in 12 Steps

While my current and past work experiences have certainly influenced a lot of my thinking in this area, it is important to note that the content below reflects my opinion and not that of my current or former employers.
Background
I have managed software products that range from consumer facing websites and mobile applications to backend data services to internal tools that publish content across various platforms seen by millions of people.
In 2014, I kicked off my career at Tradesy, a venture-backed startup company that is now one of the top online marketplaces.
I started in Customer Service and shortly after moved into Product taking ownership of a variety of products including internal tools/operations and parts of the Selling Experience. After a few years there learning technology and product management from some of the best in my field, I decided to embark on a new journey in Sports, Media, & Entertainment.
In 2017, NFL Digital Media presented me with an opportunity to manage some of their backend services that powered specific features and functionality across their owned and operated digital products.
